Woodbridge resident Jose Abel Callejas Vasquez, 24, is in trouble with the law after alleged incidents involving a family member and child shortly before Christmas, a spokesperson from the Prince William County Police Department said on Thursday, Dec. 29.

According to police, officers on patrol in Woodbridge shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23 in the area of Prince William Parkway and Trowbridge Drive spotted a vehicle facing the wrong direction in a lane of traffic in the roadway.

While investigating, officers say that they were able to make contact with the driver, later identified as Callejas Vasquez, who was allegedly intoxicated and taken into custody, while the child was found in the back seat with no seatbelt or restraint.

The 5-year-old boy was turned over to a family member and was uninjured.

Further investigation found that before the police launched the investigation, Callejas Vasquez allegedly struck a 24-year-old female family member while they were inside the vehicle, though no injuries were reported.

Callejas Vasquez was arrested and charged with:

Felony child neglect;

  • DUI;
  • Domestic assault and battery;
  • Unreasonable refusal;
  • Driving without a valid driver’s license.

He is being held without bond and his next court appearance is pending, according to police.
